Oskaloosa, Iowa — No. 17 Central Methodist dropped a pair of Heart Conference games to William Penn in a Thursday doubleheader in Oskaloosa, Iowa, falling 5-3 in game one and 8-7 in Game two.
The Eagles now stand at 27-14 overall and 13-7 in conference play, while the Statesmen move to 21-17 and 12-8 in the Heart of America
Game 1: William Penn 5 - No. 17 Central Methodist 3
William Penn came out strong in the opener, taking an early 3-0 lead heading into the second inning.
Central responded with a spark from senior Kaysie Jolley, who delivered a two-run double to cut into the deficit. Later in the sixth, fellow senior Rachel Brandt added another run with an RBI single to keep the Eagles within reach.
Despite the effort, Central was unable to complete the comeback, falling to William Penn 5-3 in game one.
Game 2: William Penn 8 - No. 17 Central Methodist 7
Central got on the board early in the opening inning, with Joely Crider driving in the first run on an RBI double. Maddie Holly followed with a groundout that brought home another run, giving the Eagles a quick 2-0 advantage. Brandt later drew a bases-loaded walk to push the lead to 3-0 by the end of the top of the first.
The Statesmen answered back, scoring three runs across the first two innings to even the game before pulling ahead 6-3 after the third.
Central responded in the fifth, as Kinlei Boley delivered a two-run single, and Holly followed with a single of her own to drive in two more runs, putting the Eagles back in front.
Holding a 7-6 lead heading into the seventh inning, Central looked poised to close it out. However, William Penn rallied with two runs in the bottom of the inning to secure the comeback victory.

Central hosts the Peru State Bobcats for a Heart Conference doubleheader on Sunday, Apil 19, at 1:00 p.m. at Reardon Family Field. CMU will host one of two senior day ceremonies at the conclusion of game two.
