Fayette, Mo. - The No. 9 Central Methodist Softball program picked up a doubleheader sweep over Culver-Stockton College Monday afternoon in Canton, Missouri.
Central defeated the Wildcats in game one, 4-2, before winning the second game, 6-4.
The Eagles now stand at 28-6 and 12-2 in the Heart of America. CS-C drops to 7-31 and 1-13 in conference play.
Game 1: No. 9 CMU 4 - CS-C 2
Central jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning when Elizabeth Palumbo doubled to bring home Joely Crider.
Two innings later, Rachel Brandt knocked a double herself, scoring two runs to make it a 3-0 Eagles lead.
CMU added one more in the sixth courtesy of a Daly Garland solo home run.
The Wildcats started a comeback in the bottom of the inning but fell halfway short after scoring two runs.
Veronica Dearth was CMU's starting pitcher for the second time in back-to-back days. She gave up two earned runs on seven hits and struck out one Wildcat for her eighth win of the year.
Cassidy Brent recorded the final five outs of the ballgame, giving up just two hits and earning her third save of the season.
Brandt and Madison Roberts both went two-for-four, with Brandt adding two RBI to her day.
Game 2: No. 9 CMU 6 - CS-C 4
In the bottom of the first, the Wildcats took the lead for the first time in the series off a sacrifice fly.
Palumbo scored on a Culver-Stockton defensive miscue in the third inning to tie the game at 1-1.
Two batters later, reigning Heart Player of the Week Lauren Hill gave CMU a 4-1 lead after sending a three-run home run over the fence.
Both teams continued to trade runs in the middle frames as the Wildcats scored two in the third to trim Central's lead to 4-3.
Central got one back in the top of the fourth when Crider singled to drive home Garland. Culver-Stcokton scored one more run in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Central added their final run of the game in the sixth on another defensive miscue by the Wildcats. CMU would ultimately take the second game of the doubleheader, 6-4.
Khloe Perkins pitched her second complete game in as many days. The freshman allowed four runs on eight hits while striking out one in the victory.
