Gulf Shores, Ala. - The No. 8 Central Methodist Softball team remained perfect at the Gulf Shores Invitational Saturday, as the Eagles picked up two more wins over Nelson University - Arizona and No. 13 William Carey. 

Central cruised past Nelson by a final score of 7-1, before defeating No. 13 William Carey in extras in their final game of the day. 

Game 1: No. 8 CMU 7 - Nelson-Arizona 1

Central didn't find its first runs of the game until the bottom of the fourth inning. The Eagles scored six runs on five hits, highlighted by a two-RBI double from Daly Garland and an RBI single from Joely Crider. 

The Warriors scored one in the top of the fifth, but Central added the finishing touches to the win in the bottom half of the frame, as an Isabella Proctor single scored Makayla Albert. 

Haley Cotter earned her fourth win of the year, tossing four and one third innings and giving up just one earned run on six hits. She also struck out two batters in the victory. 

Veronica Dearth came in relief, pitching the final two and two thirds innings and striking out two. 

Game 2:

The second game of the day featured two top 15 teams, as Central squared off against No. 13 William Carey. The Crusaders struck first, plating a run in their opening frame. 

William Carey's pitching held Central scoreless through four complete innings, before CMU broke through in the top of the fifth. 

A single from Crider scored Ainsley Feller from third, followed by an RBI single from Elizabeth Palumbo to score Albert, giving Central a 2-1 lead. 

Down to their last out and no one on base, William Carey singled followed by a walk to put the tying run at second base. WCU then singled to center to score the runner and tie the game at 2-2. 

The game would go into extra innings, with Central ultimately breaking through in the top of the ninth. 

With the international tie breaker in place, the Eagles were able to place a runner in scoring positition on second base. 

A single from Feller, followed by a hit by pitch from Albert loaded the bases for Central. 

WCU retired the next two batters, and looked to get out of the jam as Palumbo stepped to the plate. Palumbo would hit a bases clearing double to left field to put Central in front 5-2. 

Khloe Perkins would hold the Crusaders scoreless in the ninth, securing CMU's fourth win of the weekend and her second win of the year.

Central will conclude the weekend invitational with games against LSU-Alexandria and Faulkner. Game times are 9:00 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. on Sunday.
