Fayette, Mo. - The No. 11 Central Methodist Softball team secured its fourth consecutive doubleheader sweep Sunday afternoon, defeating William Penn by scores of 6-1 and 1-0 at Cox Softball Complex.
The Eagles improve their overall record to 17-4 and 9-1 in conference play. William Penn falls to 12-12 and 5-5 in the Heart.
In game one, the Statesmen jumped out on the scoreboard first via an RBI single in the second innning. Central responded with a pair of runs via a two-RBI single from Kaylee Parker in the bottom half of the frame.
CMU added two more runs in the third, this time on RBI-doubles from Madison White and Katelyn Kiser. The Eagles scored their final two runs in the fifth inning, with senior outfielder Kelli Gorman blasting a solo home run to left field. A double from Micaela Harcrow would score Madison Love from first, making the final score 6-1 in favor of Central.
CMU finished the game scoring six runs on eight hits with two walks. The Central bats only struck out once and left four runners on base.
Senior ace Keighlan Cronin earned her eighth win in the cirlce, tossing a complete game with only three hits given up and 10 strikeouts.
Game two's only run came in the bottom of the first inning. With the bases loaded and one out, Kiser was hit by a pitch which brought in Gorman from third.
Leading 1-0, Central's Mykala Johnico shut out the William Penn bats, tossing seven scoreless innings and giving up only two hits and one walk. She finished the afternoon with 10 K's en route to her sixth win of the year.
CMU will next host MidAmerica Nazarene University Wednesday, April 6 at 4:00 p.m. at Cox Softball Complex.
