Johnico tabbed as Heart Pitcher of the Week

Johnico tabbed as Heart Pitcher of the Week

Kansas City, Mo. - After an impressive showing at the Gulf Shores Invitational this past weekend, Central Methodist softball freshman Mykala Johnico was named the Heart Pitcher of the Week by the conference office Monday.

This marks the first Heart Pitcher of the Week honor for Johnico. The native of Topeka, Kan. had a monster showing against Lyon College in the opener Friday, tossing a no-hitter with a career-high 19 strikeouts in the 2-0 shut out.

She also picked up a save against Texas A&M Texarkana Saturday, pitching the final two innings and striking out six of seven batters faced.

Overall, Johnico struck out 32 total batters through 13.2 innings of work.

The Eagles finished the weekend with a 5-2 overall record. Central will begin conference play against Benedictine College Saturday, March 12 in Atchison, Kan.
