Cedar Rapids, Iowa - The Central Methodist softball program began postseason play with an 11-0 win over Culver-Stockton College in the first round of the Heart Tournament Thursday afternoon in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
After a scoreless first inning, the Eagles jumped out in front with five runs in the second and five in the third to take a 10-0 lead after three complete innings. CMU added its final run in the fourth, capping an 11-0 victory in five innings over the Wildcats.
Junior ace Keighlan Cronin nearly threw a no-hitter, giving up her lone hit with two outs in the top of the fifth inning. She tossed a complete game and struck out nine batters to earn her 26th win of the season, tying the single season program record held by Aubrey Utley (2012, 2014).
Senior outfielder Kelli Gorman finished the day batting one-for-two with four RBI including a three-run home run in the bottom of the second. Madison White and Katelyn Kolb each collected two hits, while White drove in two runs on a double to centerfield.
Morgan Willis, Adalia Sewell, and Katelyn Kiser picked up an RBI respectively.
The Eagles will continue play in the championship bracket against No. 3 seeded Baker Friday, May 7 at 2:30 p.m. Central claimed three-of-four victories from the Wildcats during regular season play.
