Steeby named HEART Player of Week

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Central Methodist University shortstop Hannah Steeby had a stellar week for the Eagles, hitting .484, with four home runs, five doubles and 14 runs batted in and has been named the Heart of America Athletic Conference Softball Player of the Week, the league office announced late Monday.

The freshman from St. Joseph, Mo. had one of her strongest weeks at the dish for CMU, finishing the period of April 17-23 with a 15-of-31 performance, with 11 runs scored and a triple, in addition to her other impressive statistics. She finished the week with a slugging percentage of 1.097 and an on-base percentage of .515. She did not strike out once during the seven days.

Steeby's top game of the week was a 4-for-4 effort against Baker University on Monday, when she scored four runs, tagged a pair of home runs and a double and drove in four runs in a 9-0 CMU win. She also had a walk-off two-run home run in the bottom of the 8th inning in Game 2 on Saturday against Evangel University, as the Eagles won 3-1.

Steeby currently ranks 11th nationally in triples (5) and 16th in the nation in triples per game (.125) heading into this week's action. She also ranks 43rd in total bases per game (2.25).

Central Methodist heads into action on Tuesday (today) with a 24-20-1 record and a Heart record of 15-13. The Eagles host Baker on Tuesday in a 4 p.m. doubleheader and then will travel to Olathe, Kan. on Wednesday for a conference twinbill at MidAmerica Nazarene University at 4 p.m. CMU is scheduled to host William Penn University Saturday at 1 p.m., weather permitting.
