CMU SOFTBALL PHOTO GALLERY VS. PARK
FAYETTE, Mo. – Fielding a mixture of regular starters and reserves, the Central Methodist University softball team couldn't overcome Park University at the Cox Softball Complex Wednesday, dropping a pair of non-conference matchups with the Pirates, 10-5 and 6-2.
The games were a break from Heart of American Athletic Conference action, as the Eagles will return to league play Friday and Saturday at home. Park (15-14) came in and tallied 22 hits in the twinbill. CMU challenged the Pirates, but were just unable to get over the hump in the games.
Alyson Fuemmeler (JR/Glasgow, Mo.) led the Eagles (18-12-1) in the opener, as the centerfielder posted a 3-for-4 outing, with a pair of runs scored. Shortstop Mae Mitchell (FR/Frederick, Colo.) slapped her first home run as a CMU player, tagging a three-run shot, while scoring twice.
Alyssa Lilly (SR/Wentzville, Mo.) led Central Methodist in the second game with a 2-for-3 outing, scoring a run.
GAME 1 RECAP
A six-run second inning by the Pirates was too much for the Eagles to overcome, as Central Methodist dropped a 10-5 opener. Park only outhit CMU 11-9.
In addition to the offensive production by Fuemmeler and Mitchell, Meredith Adam (FR/Foristell, Mo.) went 2-for-3 at the dish, driving in a run and drawing a walk. Hannah Blackmon (SR/Beaumont, Texas), Crystal Flagg (JR/Erie, Pa.) and Hannah Iborg (FR/Troy, Mo.) also produced hits.
Justice Scales led Park with a 3-for-4 game, connecting with a double and scoring twice. Mallory Land singled and doubled, while driving in four runs, while Shelby Bendure drove in three runs with a pair of singles.
Ashley Litton (SR/Lee's Summit, Mo.) (3-1) was the losing pitcher for CMU. She started the game and worked 2.1 innings. She surrendered eight runs on nine hits, with three strikeouts and five walks. Erin Enke (JR/Martinez, Calif.) came out of the bullpen and gave up one earned run (2 total) on two hits, with five strikeouts and a pair of walks in 4.2 frames.
Bendure (6-8) was the winning pitcher for the Pirates. In six innings she gave up five runs on nine hits, with two strikeouts and five walks.
After falling behind 6-1 in the top of the second, The Eagles came back with a three run second frame to pull to within 6-4. But the Pirates pushed across a pair of runs in the sixth and seventh innings to ice the contest.
GAME 2 RECAP
Central Methodist received a strong pitching performance by starter Allison Jordahl (SO/Rantoul, Ill.) for six innings in Game 2. But she left the circle before the seventh frame and the Pirates scored four times to secure a 6-2 win.
Jordahl didn't get a decision after allowing two runs on nine scattered hits, while striking out two and walking four. Alexis Kohrs (SR/Tilden, Ill.) (8-6) came in as a reliever in the seventh and struggled. She took the setback, allowing four runs on two hits, with five walks and one strikeout.
Scotlin Hurley (8-5) picked up the win for the Pirates, allowing two runs on six hits, with four strikeouts and a walk.
In addition to Lilly's offensive output, Hannah Steeby (FR/St. Joseph, Mo.) hit a two-RBI triple and Hannah Blackmon, Addy Reardon and Kylee Foster (SR/Sturgeon, Mo.) each singled.
Justice Scales led Park with a 3-for-3 contest, driving in a run and scoring another. Katie Carr and Sarah Rothe each produced a pair of hits.
The game was tied 2-2 heading into the seventh inning, but the Pirates scored four runs on two hits, while taking advantage of five walks and a pair of hits.
