Lady Eagles Route Graceland

Lady Eagles Route Graceland
Lamoni, Iowa. The Central Methodist University Lady Eagles softball team had their way with the Graceland University YellowJackets on Saturday afternoon, defeating Graceland 13-2 in game one, followed by an 18-0 victory in a final six-innings in game two.

With the victories, Central Methodist University improves to 21-11 overall and 3-1 in Heart of America Athletic Conference play; while also extending their season best win streak to nine games. With the losses, Graceland University falls to 8-12 overall, and 1-7 in The Heart.

Game one started off as a pitcher's duel, but the Eagle offense would come alive in the latter stages of the ballgame to make it a one sided affair. After two scoreless innings, CMU got on the board first with three runs in the top of the third inning, thanks to a three-run homerun off the bat of Lauren Geringer (O'Fallon, Mo.). Geringer would finish game one 3-for-4 at the plate with a season high six RBI's.

Following a scoreless fourth inning, the Central offense got back to work in the top of the fifth inning, adding three more runs. Graceland would respond with two runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning, but CMU would finish the game off with two runs in the top of the sixth inning, and five more runs in the top of the seventh inning to seal the 13-2 victory.

Reigning conference pitcher of the week Erin Enke (Martinez, Calif.) earned the win (9-4), lasting all seven innings, while allowing two runs; one earned on six hits with nine strikeouts and three walks.

Game two was even more lopsided then game one. Central got on the board first with two runs in the top of the first inning, thanks to a two-run homerun from Lauren Geringer; her second of the day. Those runs would prove to be the winning runs for CMU, however the offense didn't stop there.

Central Methodist scored in four of the six innings, concluding with a 13 run sixth inning. In that sixth inning, the Lady Eagles scored the 13 runs on 16 hits, with zero errors and they left two runners stranded.

Lauren Geringer once again led the offensive charge for CMU, finishing 3-for-5 at the plate with three runs scored, another six RBI's, two homeruns, and one double.

As a team, Central Methodist hit five homeruns in game two, two of which came off the bat of Geringer, one from Hannah Blackmon (Beaumont, Tex.), one from Jessie Wilmes (Flint Hill, Mo.), and one from Kylee Foster (Sturgeon, Mo.).

Haley Kinnison (Lee's Summit, Mo.) earned the win (9-4), going all six innings while allowing just one hit and recording 10 strikeouts.

The Lady Eagles return home to Fayette tomorrow (Sunday) afternoon to host Grand View University in a doubleheader. First pitch from the Cox Softball Complex is scheduled for 1pm.
