Lady Eagles Slash Past The Stephens Stars

Lady Eagles Slash Past The Stephens Stars
Columbia, Mo. The Central Methodist University Lady Eagles softball team swept the Stephens Stars in convincing fashion on Tuesday afternoon in Columbia, by finals of 9-0 in five innings, and 11-1.

With the victories, Central Methodist University improves to 19-11 overall and have now won seven straight games. With the losses, Stephens College falls to 7-21 on the season.

In game one, Central Methodist struck for five runs in the first inning and another three runs in the second inning. The Lady Eagles would add one more run in the fourth to close out their 9-0 victory. Central Methodist outhit Stephens College 12-2 in the contest.

Reigning conference pitcher of the week Erin Enke (Martinez, Calif.) earned the win (8-4), going all five innings while allowing just two hits, two walks and finishing with two strikeouts.

The 3-4 hitters of Lauren Geringer (O'Fallon, Mo.) and Hannah Blackmon (Beaumont, Tex.) combined to go 4-for-8 with four runs scored, three doubles and two RBI's. Catcher Mary Dahl (Altoona, Iowa) finished 2-for-2 in the eighth spot in the order, with three RBI's.

Game two was a pitcher's duel until the sixth inning. CMU jumped on the board in the first inning with a run on a Stephen's error, to take the early 1-0 lead.

That lead would hold until the top of the sixth inning, when the Central offense went off for six runs on six hits. The Lady Eagles would add four more runs in the top of the seventh inning on their way to an 11-1 victory.

Haley Kinnison (Lee's Summit, Mo.) went the distance in the win (8-4), allowing just one run to score on four hits, while striking out 10 and walking just three batters,

Offensively for the Lady Eagles, Hannah Blackmon and Addyson Reardon (Boonville, Mo.) combined to go 6-for-9 with three runs scored and four RBI's.

Earlier on Tuesday, the NAIA released their updated Top 25 Coaches' Poll and the Lady Eagles are no longer receiving votes. This is the first time CMU has not appeared in the poll, after opening the season as the preseason 5th ranked team in the country.

The Lady Eagles return home tomorrow (Wednesday), to face Heart rival Benedictine College in a conference doubleheader beginning at 1pm at the Cox Softball Complex.
