FAYETTE, Mo. - Central Methodist's softball team has been selected as a No. 2 seed in the 2014 NAIA Softball National Championship Opening Round.
The Eagles (41-6), who gathered Tuesday night to watch the selection show on campus in Mabee Athletic Facility Meeting Room A,�will make the 29-mile trip from Fayette to Columbia to compete as one of four teams in the Columbia Bracket,�opening tournament play Monday, May 12, at 12 p.m. CT at the Black Field in Antimi Sports Complex in Cosmo Park against Columbia (Mo.), the No. 3 seed and host school of the bracket. Joining Central Methodist and Columbia in the Columbia Bracket are top-seeded LSU Alexandria (La.), ranked second in the nation, and four-seed Morningside (Iowa).�

The winner of the double-elimination Columbia Bracket will advance to the�34th annual NAIA Softball World Series�May 23-29 at�South Commons Softball Complex in Columbus, Ga.
Central Methodist, ranked 14th in the nation, is appearing in the National Championship for the third-straight year and fourth time (1981, 2012, 2013, 2014) in school history. The Eagles clinched an automatic berth by winning the HAAC regular-season and Championship Series titles.
