Mary Kate Townley, a junior outfielder for the Eagles, will post a daily blog and photos from behind the scenes of the 2013 National Championship Opening Round in Claremore, Okla.
Hi everyone,
Today the CMU softball team departed from campus at 8 a.m. to start our journey to the Opening Round of the tournament. We stopped at the Quick Trip in Oak Grove for a stretch and drinks.Once we made it to Joplin, Mo., we ate at the local KFC. The bus ride was once again filled with the making of vine videos and silly snap chats.
We made it to Tulsa, Okla., around 2:30 p.m. where we checked into the hotel and prepared for the practice at Rogers State softball complex. We had a short, hour long practice where we took ground balls, fly balls and front toss. The complex was beautiful, and we are incredibly excited to have the opportunity to compete here. We convinced coach Pat Reardon, also known as "Notorious P.A.T.," to stop at QT yet again for drinks. After the short practice, we returned to our hotel where we got ready for the Opening Round Ceremonies Banquet.
Once we arrived to Rogers Banquet Hall, we were treated to a variety of foods and deserts. We helped ourselves to multiple helpings. The banquet hall was beautiful, and we were honored to be a guest at their facilities. While at the ceremonies, each coach had the chance to introduce their teams and announce their Champion of Character. Pat proudly announced that junior, Bri Kirkland, is our Champion of Character.
When we were leaving the complex, we had the opportunity to play hacky sack with the ladies of Morningside (Iowa). We jumped at the opportunity to play given our team motto, "Hacky wins the HAAC." It was a fun and entertaining experience.
We are now back at our hotel where we are preparing for our 7:30 p.m. game tomorrow against Rogers State. We appreciate all the support from the friends, family and staff at Central Methodist University!
Until next time,
M.K.
