Kansas City, Mo. - For the second consecutive year, the Central Methodist indoor track and field programs garnered Heart superlative awards, as Head Coach Kenny Anderson was named the Women's Indoor Coach of the Year, while senior thrower Taylor Bottomley earned Men's Field Athlete of the Meet honors.
Coach Anderson led the women's side to their first-ever Heart Indoor Title Saturday, winning the championship with 156 total points. The women tallied six Conference Champions and featured the highest-point scorer in sophomore sprinter Kailey Johnson, who finished with 38 total points.
Johnson placed first in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.80, the 60m dash in 7.72 and the long jump with a mark of 5.49m.
She also took third in the 200m dash in a time of 25.68 and placed second in the 4x400m relay in a time of 3:59.40.
In just two seasons at the helm of the program, Coach Anderson has posted two top-two finishes at the Heart Indoor Championships.
Bottomley continues to set a new standard of excellence in the throws. The senior from Harrisburg, Mo. took was named the Heart Men's Field Athlete of the Meet for the second straight season.
Bottomley took home victories in both the shot put and the weight throw. In the weight throw, he broke his own school record with a final toss of 21.66 meters, more than four meters better than second place. His throw is No. 1 in the nation so far this season, as he has hit the 'A' standard on numerous occassions to qualify for the NAIA National Championships.
Bottomley also claimed victory in the shot put with a mark of 16.08 meters, placing first out of 21 athletes.
