Maryville, Mo. - The Central Methodist indoor track & field programs took part in the Heart of America Athletic Conference Indoor Championships, hosted by Northwest Missouri State University Friday and Saturday in Maryville, Mo.
The men finished the two-day meet 3rd out of 12 teams, while the women placed 2nd.The Eagles had numerous athletes earn all-conference honors highlighted by freshman Kailey Johnson,. She won the 60m hurdles, placed second in the 60m dash, second in the 200, fourth in the long jump, and was the lead off in the 4x400m relay team that placed second
The men racked up 99 total points, while the women collected 130.5 team points. Grand View claimed the team title on the men's side, while MNU won the women's championship.
On the women's side, senior distance runner Lisa Sauter posted a second place finish in the women's 5,000m run in a time of 18:55.95. She also competed in the 3000m run, finishing fifth. The duo of Caroline Weatherford and Amara Reichert finished second and third in pole vault, as each posted a final mark of 2.88 meters.
Kailey Johnson continues to rewrite the CMU record books, as she broke her own school record in the 60m dash (7.83) and the 60m hurdles (9.05). Johnson earned top honors in the 60m hurdles, claiming the conference championship, and finished second in the 60m dash. She hit the 'B' standard in both events to qualify for nationals. In addition, Johnson also earned a second place finish in the 200m run with a time of 26.16 and posted Top-5 finishes in the long jump and the 4x400m relay.
Sophomore Kaitlyn Weber also landed on the podium with two third place finishes in the long jump and triple jump, with final jumps of 5.36 and 10.79 meters. Sarah King and Lillian Patterson posted a second and third place finish in the 3000m racewalk, as King recorded a time of 19:50.80 and Patterson, 20:49.61
The 4x400m relay team of Johnson, Dayana Montenegro, Mason Fitzgerald, and Abbie Hale rounded out the meet with a second place finish in 4:02.38, two seconds off the first place finisher.
For the men, Shawn Kiptoo placed second in the men's 5,000m run with a time of 15:23.28. He also competed in the 3000m run, earning a fourth place finish in a time of 9:02.09. Senior thrower Taylor Bottomley was crowned the conference champion in the men's weight throw, setting a new school record and PR at 19.03 meters, ranking No. 3 in the country and earning a trip to the national meet. He also claimed victory in the shot put with a final toss of 16.81 meters, well over a full meter of national qualification standard.
Freshman Spencer Campeau finished in third in the men's long jump with a mark of 6.95 meters, and sophomore Parker Yager won the conference title in the pole vault with a vault of 4.50 meters.
Senior Hayden Hackman claimed victory in the heptathlon with 4652 points, earning first place finishes in three of the seven events including; shot put, high jump and pole vault.
The Eagles will now set their sights on the NAIA National Indoor Championships March 4-6, in Yankton, South Dakota.
