Fayette, Mo. - The Central Methodist men's soccer team punched its ticket to the Heart Championship for the fourth-straight season, routing Grand View in the semifinals by a score of 9-1 Tuesday afternoon at Davis Field.
CMU also honored its 2021 CMU senior class prior to kick-off, which included Hunter Gilliam, Billy Nzojyibwami, Christian Sanchez, Victor Luengo, and Marcos German.
The nine goals scored are the second-most this season, as Central tallied 10 vs. Mount Mercy back on Sept. 18 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Luengo (8'), Alessandro Salvadego (17'), Nzojyibwami (23' & 52'), Sanchez (34'), Jayton Johnson (44'), German (57'), and Theo Klein (72' and 75') all recorded goals for the Eagles.
Overall, CMU recorded 29 shots including 13 on goal, compared to just six shots and two on goal for the Vikings. In addition to a brace, Salvadego dished out a new career-high three assists in the victory. Jesse Bank, Basil Erne, and German all recorded an assist as well.
Central will host rival Missouri Valley College in yet another rematch of a storied rivalry on Friday, Nov. 12 at Davis Field. This will mark the third matchup between two sides in the Heart Championship in the last four seasons.
The Eagles won the earlier matchup between the two sides by a score of 4-0 back on Oct. 20.
