Kirksville, Mo. - The No. 3 Central Methodist men's soccer program shut out NCAA Division II member Truman State University, 3-0 Wednesday afternoon in Kirksville, Mo.
With the win, CMU improves to 3-0 overall.
The match was scoreless for the first 33 minutes of action when a foul inside the box gave Central an opportunity to convert on a penalty kick.
Junior forward Alessandro Salvadego converted on the PK for his second goal of 2021, giving Central a 1-0 lead. CMU would hold a 1-0 advantage entering the halftime break, and carried that lead into the 54th minute.
Theo Klein scored his first goal of the year less than 10 minutes into the second half off the assist from Isaac Johnson.
CMU then scored its third and final goal of the evening in the 74th minute, when reigning Heart Defensive Player of the Year Tom Irion found Marcos German. Central would go on to defeat the Bulldogs by the final score of 3-0.
Central Methodist finished the match with 23 total shots compared to just eight for Truman. Seven of those shots came on frame for CMU, with Salvadego leading the CMU offense with seven shots taken including three on goal.
German followed with four shots and two on goal, while Stefano Campisi collected three shots.
As a team, the Eagles also recorded eight corner kicks compared to just three for the Bulldogs.
Sophomore goalkeeper Stefano Camerlengo finished the day with one save in 90 minutes of action between the posts, earning his third win of the season.
CMU begins conference action when they host Culver-Stockton College Wednesday, Sept. 15 at 7:30 p.m. at Davis Field.
