BALDWIN CITY, Kan. - The Central Methodist competitive cheer team took home second place out of twelve teams Saturday in the NAIA Southeast Regional Competition, hosted by Baker University.
The Eagles finished second in the preliminary round, carrying a score of 75.85 into the finals. The squad improved their score in the final round by more than five full points, finishing the event with a total of 81.3.
The team finished with marks of eight (out of a possible ten) points or higher, from all three judges, in the categories of: partner/group stunts, basket tosses, jumps, showmanship/general impression, and overall execution.
Missouri Valley took first in the competition with a total of 84.8375. Rounding out the top five finishers were Georgetown (3rd place - 78.12083), Cumberlands (4th place - 77.44167), and Lindenwood (5th place - 76.77917).
Central Methodist entered today's competition ranked 11th in the NAIA, and will wait to hear if they qualify for the 2019 Cheer National Championships in Davenport, Iowa. The announcement will come on Sunday, February 24, and will be announced on the NAIA website at 5 pm.
