Kansas City, Mo. - After a stellar weekend series, Central Methodist junior Gavin Whitehurst was named the Heart of America Baseball Player of the Week by the conference office Monday.
It marks the first weekly award for Whitehurst and the second conference award for the program this season.
Through four games against Missouri Valley College, the native of Chesapeake, Virginia batted .846 with 11 hits including three home runs, a triple and a double.
The weekend was highlighted when Whitehurst hit the game-winning two-RBI single in the finale Sunday, giving Central an 8-7 victory over the Vikings.
Whitehurst and the Eagles will next travel to Park University to face the Pirates for a four-game series beginning Friday, April 18 in Parkville, Mo.
