Versailles, Mo. - The No. 10 Central Methodist baseball team closed the 2021 CMU Series with a doubleheader split against William Woods, winning game one by a score of 10-1, before falling in the finale, 3-1.
The four-team tournament featured; Bellevue, Central Methodist, Olivet Nazarene, and William Woods. The Eagles improve their record to 10-2 overall and end the 2021 CMU series winning three of their four games.
In the first game of the day, senior pitcher Mason Schwellenbach got the start on the bump, pitching six innings and only giving up one run and four hits. He struck out 11 batters and kept his record at a perfect 3-0 to start the season.
Deshawn Cole gave the Eagles the early lead in the first inning but it wasn't until the second inning that the Eagles exploded with five runs. Central added two runs in the third and one in the fourth and sixth innings to solidify their third win of the CMU series.
Kenny Otero led the Eagles' offense, batting two-for-three with two home runs and four RBI. Deshawn Cole and Grant Victor also batted two-for-three to finish the game, as Cole scored one run and Victor two runs. Logan Haring went one-of-four on the day with one homerun and two RBI while Sergio Macias batted .500 with a solo home run. Jeff Vance collected two RBI and one hit in four at-bats.
William Woods held CMU to one run in the second game, earning a narrow 3-1 victory. Both teams finished the game with five-hits, but the Owls were able to capitalize on three of those, handing the Eagles their second loss of the season.
Adrian Martinez collected his third home run of the year in the bottom of the second inning. Max McCay finished the game batting.666 while Haring and Macias each collected a hit.
Dylan Brister pitched 2.2 innings giving up four hits and three runs. Elvin Ramos came in relief and pitched the final 4.1 innings, giving up one hit and striking out two batters.
The Eagles will be back on the field on March 6 in St. Louis, Mo. to face Missouri Baptist University at 3:00 p.m.
