FAYETTE, Mo. – For the second week in a row, Mason Schwellenbach (JR/Saginaw, Mich.) has been named the Heart Pitcher of the Week, announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon. This marks his third weekly conference honor this season.
Schwellenbach tossed a complete game in the shutout over Missouri Valley on Saturday afternoon, striking out nine while allowing only one hit through seven innings. He tallied 61 strikes in a total of 86 tosses.
The junior with the smoking right hand currently holds a 6-0 record on the bump this season. He has an earned run average (ERA) of 2.20 and has struck out 70 batters through 45 innings pitched. Schwellenbach is currently ranked 7th in the NAIA for opponents' batting average (.163) and 9th in total hits allowed (26).
The Eagles (26-9, 14-5 Heart) will be back in action on April 16 with a non-conference contest at Columbia College. The single, 9-inning game is set to begin at 6 PM.
