Montgomery, Ala. The Central Methodist University baseball team opened up play in the Faulkner Bracket of the NAIA Opening Round on Tuesday in Montgomery, Alabama. CMU won their first game of the day, 14-7 against Texas A&M Texarkana, before falling 7-2 to Faulkner University.

With the split, Central Methodist University moves to 44-16 overall.

The first game of the day sent the no. 4 seed CMU against the no. 5 seed Texas A&M Texarkana. The Eagles from Texarkana jumped on the board first, with four runs in the top of the first inning. CMU would respond with three runs of their own in the bottom half of the first inning. Following two complete innings, CMU trailed 7-5.

Central Methodist struck for a run in the bottom of the sixth inning, on a one out Brad Cuyos (Pearland, Tex.) solo homerun; his 18th of the season. CMU would then break the game open for good in the bottom of the seventh inning, striking for eight runs to take a 14-7 lead. CMU would never look back.

Central starter Tyler Hull (New Franklin, Mo.) lasted just 1.1 innings, while allowing all seven runs on seven hits. Chris Danielson (Saugus, Calif.) pitched in relief of Hull and tossed the remaining 7.2 innings and allowed just seven hits and struck out one to earn the win (4-0).

Joba Ferrell (Chicago, Ill.), Logan Bradley (Farmington, Mo.), and Brennan Hurley (Elsberry, Mo.) all finished with two hits apiece in game one.

In game two of the day for Central Methodist, the CMU Eagles were pitted against the #1 seed and 3rd ranked Faulkner University. The Faulkner Eagles scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning and never looked back in their 7-2 victory.

CMU starting pitcher Jeff King (Paris, Tex.), lasted five innings in the loss (10-4). King allowed just three runs on seven hits with two strikeouts and three walks.

Offensively for CMU, the Eagles managed just four hits against Faulkner; two of which came off the bat of Austin Fridley (St. Genevieve, Mo.).
