Eagles Blast Past Bobcats

Eagles Blast Past Bobcats
Peru, Neb. The Central Methodist University baseball team traveled to Peru, Nebraska on Tuesday afternoon and defeated the Peru State College Bobcats in their Heart of America Athletic Conference doubleheader. Central Methodist won game one by a final of 8-2 in a final seven-innings, and won game two 9-5 in nine-innings.

With the victories, Central Methodist improves to 27-13 overall and 12-7 in The Heart. With the losses, Peru State College falls to 15-22, and 10-10 in The Heart.

In game one, Peru State College struck first for two runs in the bottom of the second inning for the early 2-0 lead. Central would then get their first run on the board in the fourth inning, but still trailed 2-1 heading to the sixth inning.

The Eagle offense exploded for seven runs on five hits, with just one error and they left two runners on base in the top of the sixth inning to take a commanding 8-2 lead; CMU would hold on to win by that same score.

Scott Huesemann (St. Peters, Mo.) got the win (4-3), going all seven innings while allowing two runs; one earned on six hits with three strikeouts and five walks.

Offensively, Logan Bradley (Farmington, Mo.) finished game one going 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBI's and one run scored. Aldo Adamus (Curacao) and Joba Ferrell (Chicago, Ill.) finished with three and two RBI's each respectively.

Game two was very similar to game one. Peru State struck first for an early run in the bottom of the second inning, but then CMU would strike.

The Eagles would score one or more runs from the third through sixth innings, and they would add one more run in the eighth inning, on their way to a game two 9-5 victory over the Bobcats.

Eagles' game two starter Dustin Dalton (St. Peters, Mo.) earned the win (2-0), while tossing six innings that saw him allow two runs on five hits with two strikeouts and a walk. Brad Cuyos (Pearland, Tex.) picked up his first save of the year, with a scoreless ninth inning, in which he finished with two strikeouts.

Brennan Hurley (Elsberry, Mo.) led the Eagles offensively, finishing 3-for-5 at the plate with two RBI's and a run scored. Joba Ferrell, Logan Bradley, and Aldo Adamus all finished with two hits in the ballgame.

The Eagles return to action this weekend, with a home-and-home series with Missouri Valley College. CMU will host the Vikings for a doubleheader on Saturday at Estes Field beginning at 1pm. The two teams will then travel to Marshall, Missouri, for a doubleheader on Sunday beginning at 1pm.
