HANNIBAL, Mo. - Eagles' pitcher Mike D'Eletto allowed just one earned run in six innings Tuesday, leading Central Methodist to a 7-1 win at Hannibal-LaGrange (Mo.) in the second game of a doubleheader at Nichols Field. The Eagles lost the first contest 6-1.
Central Methodist (21-20) staked to a 1-0 lead in the second inning of game one when Hayden McMillon led off with a walk and scored three batters later on a wild throw by Ryan Hurley. However, Hannibal-LaGrange (16-24) countered with four runs in the fifth inning and two in the sixth.�
Four-straight walks in the fifth gave the Trojans a 2-1 edge. Drew Morecraft followed with a two-run double to left center to give the home team a three-run edge. Eduardo Ibarra scored on a wild pitch in the sixth before an Edwin DOMINGUEZ RBI singled down the left field line provided the final tally.
Ibarra finished 3-for-3.
Cole Lankford (1-0) earned the win on the mound with two and two-third innings of one-hit, scoreless relief with one strikeout and one walk.
Joba Ferrell, Logan Bradley and Jake Buhmann each had one hit for the Eagles.�
Pitcher Scott Huesemann (0-3) took the loss, surrendering four earned runs on five hits with a strikeout and six walks in four and one-third innings.
The Eagles took a 3-0 lead through three innings of game two and never looked back. A Brennan Hurley single to right plated C.J. Regan in the second inning. In the third, Chance Sugg took home on a defensive indifference when Bradley stole second on the same play. Brad Cuyos followed with a two-out RBI double down the left field line to give coach Nate Breland's squad a three-run edge.
The Trojans notched their only run in the fourth inning on a Pedro Veloz RBI single to left center.
Central Methodist tacked on three more runs in the sixth and one in the seventh. Hurley and Ferrell back-to-back RBI singles gave the Eagles a four-run edge. Bradley followed two batters later with an RBI groundout.�
Hurley's third run batted in came in the seventh inning with two outs.
Hurley was 3-for-4 at the plate. Ferrell had two hits, as the Eagles compiled 12 in the win. Seven different players scored one run.
D'Eletto (3-3) gave up six hits with four strikeouts and a walk in the win. Jeremy Karasewski tossed one inning of one-hit, scoreless relief with a strikeout.
Seven different Trojans had one hit in the loss.
Pitcher Richard Galan (0-2) was tagged with the loss, giving up three runs, one earned, on seven hits with six strikeouts and two walks in four and one-third innings.
Central Methodist resumes league play April 17-18 with a four-game series at Evangel (Mo.). First pitch each day is set for 1 p.m. CT.
