FAYETTE, Mo. - The Eagles' Tony Shipp scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the eighth inning of game one, highlighting a series split Wednesday between Central Methodist and Grace (Neb.). The Green and Black took game one 9-8 in eight innings but dropped the second contest, 5-1, at Estes Field.
Central Methodist (16-16) took its win streak to six games after the game-one victory. Grace (24-13) grabbed a 6-2 lead in the top of the fourth following a Victory Serna two-run double before the Eagles rallied with six runs in the fifth.
Hayden McMillon and Kyle Poynter scored the first two runs in the bottom of the fifth on two Royals' errors. The Eagles batted around in the frame, as a Neil Hansen two-run single gave his team a 7-6 edge. A McMillon RBI single increased the Central Methodist lead to 8-6.
The Royals tied the affair in the seventh with RBI hits from Carlos Ochoa and Brian Eichhorn, but the Eagles put together the winning attack in the eighth with two outs, starting with a Reese Johnson single to right center. Shipp pinch ran for the left handed pitcher who entered the game in the top of the frame and pitched a hitless half-inning. An Eli�Bowers and Nick Galenti walk followed, loading the bases for Mike Wagner. On a 1-1 count, a Luciano Reynoso slider bounced in the dirt and to the backstop, allowing Shipp to score the winning run from third base.
McMillon, Poynter and C.J. Regan each had two hits. Regan scored two runs. Bowers and Hansen each had two RBIs.�
Andres Enriquez had three hits and one RBI in the loss.
Johnson (4-0) got the win with one inning of shutout ball, allowing one walk.�
Reynoso (2-4) suffered the loss, allowing one earned run on two hits with a walk in a third of an inning.
An Enriquez RBI double started a three-run first inning in game two, as the Royals jumped out to a 4-0 lead.
The Eagles' lone run came in the fourth when Brandon Lamphier-Shaffer scored on a Royals' error.
Grace added an insurance run in the fifth on a Jacinto Garcia RBI single.
Four Royals had two hits apiece, and five players each scored one run.
Nick Padley had two hits in game two for the Eagles.
Matt Naval (5-1) got the win on the mound, pitching four innings. He allowed one unearned run on three hits with two strikeouts and three walks. Miles Norton (1) recorded a save with three innings of two-hit, scoreless relief with a pair of strikeouts.
Pitcher Rhett Quinlan (2-4) suffered the defeat, allowing five runs, three earned, on 11 hits with one strikeout and two walks in six innings.
Central Methodist resumes Heart of America Athletic Conference play with a four-game series Saturday and Sunday at Missouri Valley. Each doubleheader starts at 1 p.m. CT.
