King's Hattiesburg trip blog: Wednesday

King's Hattiesburg trip blog: Wednesday
Brian King, a junior infielder for the Eagles, will post a daily blog and photos from behind the scenes of the 2013 National Championship Opening Round in Hattiesburg, Miss.

Previous Blog: Tuesday

Hey everyone,

After an 11 hour trip we finally arrived in Hattiesburg, Miss. a little after 6 a.m. this morning. After a quick breakfast at the hotel, many of us headed to our rooms to get a few hours of sleep before we had to meet down in the lobby at noon to head to lunch at McCalister's Deli. Once we were finished with lunch, we proceeded back to the hotel for a little down time before we had to head to William Carey at 3 p.m. for practice. We had a good day at the field, and though it was hot it sure beats the unusually cold weather we were faced with at the Conference Tournament in Saint Joseph, Mo.

That evening we headed to the regional banquet held at William Carey which hosted all five teams in this region. We had a great meal and ceremony.

The ceremony included Champions of Character awards handed out to each teams' chosen ball player (ours was junior second baseman Mason Mershon), as well as an inspirational closing message by a local former sports producer at a television station for 27 years who now works with Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA). The head coaches then had a meeting following and we found out, after a coin flip, we will be the visiting team tomorrow playing the University of South Carolina Beaufort Sand Sharks at 12 p.m. Departure time will be at 9:30 a.m. for the ball field.

Coach Fred Smith's last words to us on the bus tonight: "We leave here tomorrow at 9:30, Drew Greiwe on the hill, time to go to work!"

Wish us luck!

Brian
