FAYETTE, Mo. - The Central Methodist baseball team has been honored by the NAIA with the 2012 Buffalo Funds Five Star Champions of Character Team Award, which was announced Tuesday.
The Eagles spent 2011-12 actively involved in the mid-Missouri area. In Boonville, the team�built a gazebo in Rolling Hills Park and worked�the Boonville Prayer Breakfast while also�organizing the first Community Prayer Breakfast on the Central Methodist campus. The Heart of America�Athletic Conference Tournament runners-up�worked the Central Missouri Food Bank�in Columbia and the Howard County Food Bank in Fayette. Other involvements included performing manual labor�in Fayette, working the Angel Tree Foundation, which benefits children of incarcerated parents, and inviting Ken Johnson, the�Indianapolis Colts�chaplain, to campus to speak to the Eagle community.
The�Buffalo Funds Five Star Champions of Character Team Awards are presented at the end of the season for each of the NAIA's 23 championship sports. Teams that receive this prestigious award demonstrate in every day decisions respect, responsibility, integrity, servant leadership and sportsmanship. These institutions and athletic programs strive for excellence in and out of competition and are part of communities throughout the country dedicated to character-driven intercollegiate athletics.
