ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - The Central Methodist baseball team rallied for five runs in the bottom of the 8th inning to erase a 4-1 deficit and post a 6-5 win over No. 23-ranked MidAmerica Nazarene in the final game of the first day of the Heart of America Athletic Conference Baseball Tournament at�Phil Welch Stadium.
The Pioneers took a 3-0 lead after five innings and still led by three after seven innings before the Eagles rallied. Central Methodist chased MNU starter Kyle Olson after 7.1 innings and the bases loaded and tied the game on a 3-run double by Mike Allen off reliever Justin Huggins (6-2). The next two Eagles, Kyle Poynter and Eli Bowers, would also deliver doubles to cap off the rally. The Pioneers tallied a single run in the top of the 9th on a sacrifice fly by Josh Greer, but Drew Greiwe (7-2) induced a fly ball to right field to complete his 148-pitch performance.
Greiwe allowed five runs on six hits, walking four while striking out eight to move his team into a winner's bracket game against Peru State at 7:00 p.m.
Olson yielded four runs on seven hits while walking two and striking out five. The Pioneers square off with fellow co-champion Avila in a potential elimination game at 3:30 p.m.
