Junior Freddie Cabrera (Isabela, Puerto Rico) pitched his second complete-game shutout of the week in CMU's 3-0 win in game one. He scattered seven hits and struck out six to earn his fourth win of the season. The Eagles scored a run in the top of the first inning, and added two in the top of the fourth. Senior Thomas Brown (Columbia, Mo.) and junior Dustin Ray (Boonville, Mo.) each went 2-for-3 at the plate with one RBI each in the game for Central Methodist. Brown also had a run scored. Senior Adam Arnette (Pacific, Mo.) accounted for CMU's other RBI in the game.
CMU trailed 1-0 in game two, but scored four runs on four hits in the top of the sixth inning to take a 4-1 lead. Freshman Brian King (Springfield, Mo.) and junior Matt Gessner (Lykens, Pa.) hit back-to-back singles to lead off the inning. With one out, sophomore Mike Allen (Mattawan, Mich.) reached on an error to score King. After Allen stole second, sophomore Steve Bazner (Waterford, Mich.) hit a two-RBI single, and junior Brennen Wood (West Plains, Mo.) followed with an RBI single to give the Eagles their fourth run of the inning. Lindenwood scored two runs in the bottom of the inning to get to within 4-3, but CMU added a run in the top of the seventh on a single by King to make it 5-3. In the bottom of the seventh, Lindenwood got a runner on base with one out, but a fly out and ground out sealed the win for CMU. Sophomore Travis Tompson (West Plains, Mo.) earned the win for the Eagles, allowing just one run on four hits in five innings of work. Junior AJ Pfeifer (Godfrey, Ill.) picked up the save with no runs in 1 1/3 innings of work.
Central Methodist improved to 15-18 overall and 11-9 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference with the wins, while Lindenwood dropped to 23-15 on the season and 16-4 in the HAAC. The Eagles will be back in action Tuesday when they travel to Fulton, Mo., for a non-conference game at William Woods University scheduled for 6 p.m.
