Baldwin City, Kan. - No. 18 Baker University narrowly defeated No. 20 Central Methodist, 24–23, in a highly competitive women's wrestling dual Thursday night in Baldwin City, Kansas.
Central picked up the first points of the evening as Mya Hairston eaned a forfeit win at 103 pounds.Baker quickly answered at 110 with No. 15 Kylie Robledo picking up a forfeit of her own.
The Eagles built momentum in the middle of the lineup, led by dominant performances from their ranked wrestlers. At 117, No. 12 Yusneiry Agrazal controlled the match from start to finish, earning a 12-0 technical fall over Sophia Castillo. No. 14 Berlin Kiddoo followed at 124 with a 13-3 tech fall against Kylee Slyter to extend CMU's lead.
Baker closed the gap with a forfeit win at 131, but Central Methodist responded again at 138 as Emily Neumann secured a 12-2 technical fall over Mariam Shariq. The Wildcats stayed in contention at 145, where No. 20 McKenna Haltom posted a 6-0 win via decision over Eve Herlyn.
One of the dual's marquee matchups came at 160 pounds, where No. 2 Allyssa Johnson delivered a highlight-reel performance for the Eagles, pinning No. 17 Hailee Crosland just 1:24 into the first period.
Baker answered back with a forfeit at 180 before No. 13 Madeleine Stone concluded the dual with a hard-fought 5-2 decision over No. 20 Christina Page.
The Wildcats edged the Eagles at the conclusion of the final bout based on criteria
Central will compete in their final dual of the year against No. 3 William Penn Wednesday, Feb. 11 at 5:00 p.m. in Oskaloosa, Iowa.
