Mt. Vernon, Iowa - Central Methodist Women's Wrestling delivered multiple Top-8 finishes while competing against a strong national field at the Cliff Keen Invitational Saturday in Mt. Vernon, Iowa.
The day was highlighted by a podium finish from Sierra Alamilla at 124 pounds.
Alamilla led the Eagles with a fourth-place finish, earning 15 team points. After a first-round loss, she mounted an impressive consolation run, posting three straight technical fall victories over Kimani Glasper (Illinois Wesleyan), Ayane Jasinski (Wartburg), and Lainie Burkhart (Simpson) to advance to the third-place match.
Alamilla ultimately finished fourth after falling to Iowa's Isabella Gonzales, securing Central Methodist's highest placement of the tournament.
At 131 pounds, Ashlan Thompson battled through a demanding bracket to claim an eighth-place finish. Thompson recorded three wins in the consolation rounds, including two technical falls and a pin over Krisean Buchana (Eureka), before narrowly missing a top-six placement. Her performance added 9.5 points to the team total.
Paris Kelleher also earned an eighth-place finish at 160 pounds. Kelleher opened the tournament with a first-round pin and added another victory in the consolation bracket, pinning Annabel Blanchard (Wartburg).
She capped the weekend with 9.5 team points while competing against several nationally ranked opponents.
CMU concluded the invite with 37.5 team points to finish eighth out of 18 competing teams.
Central returns to dual action against No. 10 Missouri Valley College Tuesday, Jan. 20 at 7:00 p.m. in Marshall, Mo.
