Eagles Conclude Season at NAIA National Championships

Park City, Kan. - The Central Methodist Women's Wrestling program sent two Eagles to this year's NAIA National Championships this past weekend in Park City, Kansas.

CMU was represented by a pair of seniors in Victoria Nunez (117) and Lillian Gough (138).

Nunez received a first-round bye before squaring off against Shammilka Miranda of Cumberlands in the championship's second round of the 117 pound bracket. She would fall to Miranda via pin at 2:13, moving her to the consolation rounds.

Nunez would then face Kendall Martin and secure a win via a pin at 4:31, advancing her to the evening session later that night. The El Paso, Texas senior concluded her tournament with a Tech Fall loss to Callie Payton of Lindsey Wilson.

Gough overcame a defeat in her first tournament match to secure a gutsy win over Gianna Moreno of Friends University. Gough closed her tournament run with a loss to Serenity De La Garza of Missouri Valley College.

Central finished 27th in the team standings at the conclusion of the two-day tournament.
