Fayette, Mo. – After five seasons of leading the Central Methodist Women's Wrestling program, Head Coach Brieana Delgado has announced her resignation to pursue career opportunities in a different field
"We would like to thank Coach Delgado for her relentless and tireless commitment to our women's wrestling program and our athletic department," stated Director of Athletics, Jeff Sherman.
"Her commitment to athlete development, academic integrity, and competitive excellence has put our program in a very good position for the next era," added Sherman. "We wish her well in adjusting to her new profession and we are thrilled she will continue to live in the Fayette area. Coach Delgado will assist with the transition to a new leader of our program."
Delgado is the only head coach the program has ever known. She was the first head coach appointed to lead the program when women's wrestling was established at Central Methodist prior to the 2019-20 school year.
In a five-year span leading the Eagles, Delgado has taken the program to incredible heights. She has coached 36 national qualifiers, five NAIA All-Americans, a national runner-up, and the NAIA's first-ever National Champion at 116 pounds in Caitlyn Thorne.
Under Delgado's leadership, the program finished third in the Heart of America Conference Championships in 2022-23. That same year, the Eagles finished seventh at the inaugural NAIA National Championships in Jamestown, North Dakota. For her efforts, Delgado was named both the Heart Coach of the Year and the NAIA National Coach of the Year by the National Wrestling Coaches' Association.
Additionally, Delgado was part of the athletic department when CMU hosted the first-ever Heart of America Women's Conference Championships inside Puckett Field House in 2021.
"In my five years at Central Methodist, I do truly appreciate everything I have learned and the bonds that I have made," stated Delgado. "Some of my personal goals have changed since I started working here and I feel that the time has come for me to pursue another opportunity. I want to ensure to everyone that I will do everything I can to make sure the program is better off. I will still be living in Fayette for the upcoming school year, and still want to volunteer my time to help our new coach find their footing."
A national search for the next Head Coach will begin immediately.
