Kansas City, Mo. - For the first time this season, Central Methodist sophomore grappler Caitlyn Thorne was named the Heart Women's Wrestler of the Week by the conference office Monday.
Thorne becomes the fourth wrestler for CMU to earn recognition, as Caitlyn Davis (Nov. 22 & Jan. 9), Allison Hynes (Dec. 19), and Hannah Hall (Jan. 30) all earned Heart Wrestler of the Week nods in 2022-23.
The native of St. Charles, Mo. had a stellar showing at the Grand View Open this past weekend, posting a 4-0 record en-route to a first place finish in her bracket
She began the tournament with a pair of wins by Tech Fall against the No. 8 and No. 20 nationally ranked wrestlers in the country including Glory Konecny of Southern Oregon and Wayland Baptist's Mia Arceneaux.
Thorne then earned a victory via a 7-4 decision over No. 3 ranked Lita Cruz of Grand View in the semifinals to punch her ticket to the championship match. She won the championship with a 9-1 decision over No. 2 ranked Juliana Diaz of Missouri Baptist.
Thorne and the Eagles will next host William Penn Thursday Feb. 9 at 7:30 p.m. inside Puckett Field House for the final regular season home dual of the year.
