Five grapplers ranked in NAIA Top-20; Eagles continue to receive votes

Kansas City, Mo. – The Central Methodist women's wrestling team continues to receive votes in the latest NAIA Women's Wrestling Coaches' Top-20 Poll, announced by the national office morning. Five Eagles are also ranked on the Top-20 of each of their respective weight classes.

Other Heart programs featured in the Top-20 include: No. 2 Grand View, No. 6 Baker, No. 16 Missouri Valley, No. 19 William Penn and No. 20 Waldorf.

Freshman Nevaeh Cassidy is the highest ranked Eagle, jumping six spots from No. 17 in the previous poll to now No. 11 at 143-pounds. Autumn Barela and Giovanna Loza are currently ranked No. 16 and No. 17 in the 130-pound and 123-pound weight classes respectively. Savannah Kiddoo (20th/116) and Yahaira Vargas (19th/191) are also nationally ranked.

Barela and Cassidy are also Top-3 in the Heart Heart of America Athletic Conference, while Loza is 4th and Kidoo and Vargas are both 5th in their weight classes.

Central will next compete in the Warrior Open Saturday, Feb. 13 in Fremont, Neb. The Eagles will then make history when they host the inaugural 2021 Heart of America Conference Women's Wrestling Championship on Saturday, Feb. 20 inside Puckett Fieldhouse.

Poll Methodology

  • The poll was voted upon by a panel of head coaches representing each of the eight conferences.
  • Two days prior to the national poll, each qualifying group rater submits the top six individuals from each weight class in his conference into the system. Only wrestlers listed on a conference ballot are considered for the national ballot.
  • The top 20 individuals in each weight class is based on how each voter ranks the best individuals. An individual receives 20 points for each first place vote, 19 for second place and so on through the list. This same point system is used to determine the team ranking.
  • The postseason poll is determined using the individual and team results from the national championship
