Des Moines, Iowa - The No. 5 seeded Central Methodist Volleyball program secured a four-set victory over No. 4 Grand View University in the Quarterfinals of the Heart of America Conference Tournament Saturday afternoon in Des Moines, Iowa.
With the victory, Central returns to the Heart Semifinals for the fifth consecutive season, improving their overall record to 21-7. The Vikings see their season come to an end with a final mark of 14-18.
CMU made quick work of the first set, defeating Grand View 25-20. The Vikings answered back with a 25-15 win in set two, before Central closed the match out with a 25-17 victory in the third set, and a 25-21 win in set four.
Sophomore outside hitter Sydney Healy had a career-day for CMU, as the Kansas City, Mo. native racked up a career-best 18 kills for a .421 hitting percentage. Junior Callie Henson tallied 17 kills in addition to two digs and two blocks.
Annabelle Maassen and Delaney Miller each picked up eight kills, and Maassen nearly secured a double-double with 14 digs.
Gabi Owczarek led the setters with 23 assists paired with 10 digs for a double-double. Senior Marina Alonso added 19 assists and two digs.
Junior libero Krystal Brauner matched her career-high with 38 digs to lead the defense. Senior Shea Luby also tallied double-digit digs with 18.
Overall, Central's defense forced 19 Viking attack errors and a .143 hitting percentage on the afternoon.
The Eagles will travel to Olathe, Kan. to face No. 1 seeded MidAmerica Nazarene in the Heart Semifinals Tuesday, Nov. 8 at 7:00 p.m. Central is seeking its fifth-straight appearance in the Heart Tournament Championship match with a victory.
