Cedar Rapids, Iowa - The No. 16 Central Methodist Volleyball program earned its fourth consecutive sweep, defeating the Mount Mercy Mustangs in straight sets (25-21, 25-15, and 25-12) Saturday afternoon in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Central improves to 11-4 and 5-3 in the Heart, while the Mustangs fall to 11-4 and 4-3 in conference play. After dropping three of its first Heart Conference matches, the Eagles are now winners of four-straight.
CMU's offense steadily improved in each set, hitting .232 in set one, .259 in set two, and .324 in set three. Annabelle Maassen and Callie Henson led the offensive attack with 10 kills apiece. Delaney Miller added eight kills on 12 swings for a .667 hitting percentage.
Joana Milho chipped in five kills while Rita Campos and Syndey Healy recorded four kills each.
Marina Alonso dished out a team-high 22 assists. The senior from São Paulo, Brazil also recorded 10 digs to earn a double-double. Gabi Owczarek added 10 assists while Krystal Brauner notched seven.
Brauner led the defensive efforts with 16 digs, followed by Shea Luby with 14. Healy recorded two solo blocks and a block assist, in addition to three block assists from Milho.
Overall, Central's defense held the Mustangs to a .092 hitting percentage while forcing 19 attack errors.
Central returns home to Puckett Field House to host rival Missouri Valley College Tuesday, Sept. 27 at 7:00 p.m.
