Lexington, Ky. - The United States Marine Corps and the American Volleyball Coaches Association announced that 1,213 collegiate and high school volleyball teams from across the country have earned the USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award this season, including the Central Methodist Women's Volleyball program.
The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average (GPA) on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.
This marks the sixth time in the last seven seasons that Central has earned the distinction, as they were recognized four straight years from 2016-2019, again in 2021 and now 2022. As a team, the Eagles finished the year with a final team GPA of 3.68.
In addition, the Eagles landed in the top 20-percent of NAIA programs to earn Honor Roll Distinction, making them just one of 12 teams in the nation to be recognized.
On the court, Central finished 2021-22 with an overall record of 29-9 including a conference tournament championship appearance and its fourth straight trip to the national tournament.
