Fayette, Mo. - The No. 11 Central Methodist Volleyball team got back on track with a four-set win over Evangel University by scores of (25-23, 25-17, 23-25 and 25-18) Friday night in Puckett Field House.
With the win, Central pushes its record to 16-3 and 7-1 in the Heart, while the Valor fall to 9-9 and 1-5 in conference play.
The Eagles claimed sets one and two, before Evangel avoided the sweep with a narrow victory in set three. CMU's offense came out strong in the fourth, jumping out in front 6-1. Evangel trimmed the defecit to as few as two, before Central outscored EU 14-9 to close the set and the match.
Grace Unnvik tallied a new season-high 19 kills on 29 swings, good enough for a .629 hitting percentage. The senior also recorded three blocks. Jordan Wolfe followed with 12 kills, four digs and two blocks, while Callie Henson rounded out the trio with 11 kills.
Junior setter Marina Alonso matched her career-best in assists with 34 while also picking up six digs. Yenne Schepers set a career-high with 28 assists. Krystal Brauner led the defensive effort with 22 digs, followed by Annabelle Maassen with 18. Maassen also nearly collected a double-double with nine kills.
Shea Luby was sharp from the service line, picking up three service aces to lead the Eagles. Overall, the Central defense held Evangel to a .196 hitting percentage including 19 errors.
The Eagles head back out on the road for a matchup against MidAmerica Nazarene Tuesday, Oct. 5 at 7:00 p.m. in Olathe, Kan. This the second meeting between the two teams this season, as Central defeated the Pioneers back on Sept. 14 in a thrilling five set match.
