St. Louis, Mo. - The No. 11 Central Methodist volleyball team posted a 1-2 record at the highly competitive Missouri Baptist Spartan Invitational this weekend. 

Central opened the tournament with a four set win over Xavier (La.) (25-17, 24-26, 25-18, 25-23), followed by a four-set defeat to No. 20 Lindsey Wilson (29-31, 25-18, 25-27, 14-25). The Eagles concluded the weekend with a four set loss to No. 1 and defending NAIA National Champion Missouri Baptist (22-25, 26-24, 21-25, 16-25). 

After the weekend, Central's record now stands at 9-2 overall entering conference play. 

Against Xavier, Sydney Healy led the offense with nine kills on 23 swings, while Annabelle Maassen and Jordan Wolfe each collected eight kills. Callie Henson and Grace Unnvik tallied seven kills apiece, and Marina Alonso dished out a team-high 23 assists. 

Gabi Owczarek also reached double-digit assists with 11. The duo of Krystal Brauner and Shea Luby recorded double-digit digs with 20 and 15 respectively. 

In a four set defeat to Lindsey Wilson, the trio of Henson, Unnvik and Maassen each collected 11 or more digs, as Henson led the way with 12 while Unnvik and Maassen recorded 11. 

Alonso once again led Central with a team high 26 assists while Brauner tallied 32 digs on the defensive side. 

In the finale on Saturday against No. 1 Missouri Baptist, Maassen was the only Eagle to reach double-digit kills with 12, paired with six digs. Avery Hays dished out 20 assists through four sets along with 11 digs, good enough to earn a double-double. Alonso also nearly collected a double-double with 15 assist and nine digs. 

Central begins conference action with a matchup against MidAmerica Nazarene Tuesday, Sept. 14 at 7:00 p.m. inside Puckett Fieldhouse.
