Fayette, Mo. - The Central Methodist volleyball program began national tournament play with a three-set sweep (25-14, 25-5, and 25-12) of Cottey College in the NAIA National Championship Opening Round Saturday night inside Puckett Fieldhouse.
With the win, Central improves its overall record to 14-6, while the Comets conclude their season at 10-17. CMU also advances to the Final Site for the third straight season.
After taking set one, 25-14, the Eagles cruised to a 25-5 victory in set two and closed the match with a 25-12 win in the third set. Jordan Wolfe led the offensive attack for CMU, recording 10 kills on 17 swings for a .588 hitting percentage. She also picked up three block assists.
Grace Stumbaugh followed with eight kills and also collected three block assists. The duo of Elise Hardesty-Irvin and Marina Alonso dished out double-digit assists with 14 and 11 respectively.
On the defensive side, sophomore libero Krystal Brauner finished the evening with 10 digs and two service aces. As a team, the Eagles' offense hit .455 along with eight service aces. Cottey College concluded the match hitting -0.043 with only 14 kills.
The Eagles will begin pool play at the Final Site of the NAIA Volleyball National Championship on Tuesday, April 27 in Sioux City, Iowa.
