Fayette, Mo. - For the second straight game, the No. 10 ranked Central Methodist volleyball team swept a Heart opponent, as they defeated Benedictine College in three sets by scores of 25-18, 25-18, and 25-23 Saturday afternoon in Puckett Fieldhouse.
With the win, the Eagles improve to 3-1 overall and 1-1 in Heart play, while the Ravens fall to 1-1 overall and in the conference.
The Eagles cruised to victory in the first two sets by identical scores before the Ravens rebounded with a solid third set. Trailing by as many as seven points, the CMU offense surged forward, scoring 13 of the next 17 points to edge the Ravens in the final frame, 25-23.
Annabelle Maassen once again led the offense, throwing down nine kills on 17 swings for a hitting percentage of.438. Jordan Wolfe also recorded nine kills while Callie Henson and Grace Stumbaugh each collected eight. Both Elise Hardesty-Irvin and Shannon Peters finished the match with double-digit assists as Hardesty-Irvin recorded 17 to lead the team and Peters collected 12.
The CMU defense compiled six blocks and held Benedictine to a .156 hitting percentage. Anna Wolf recorded a solo block and Krystal Brauner finished the afternoon with 10 digs.
Central Methodist continues its five-match homestand with a showdown against MidAmerica Nazarene Tuesday, Sept. 22 at 7:00 p.m. inside Puckett Fieldhouse.
