CANTON, Mo. ---- The Central Methodist volleyball team defeated Culver-Stockton College Monday night in three consecutive sets to move to 8-4 in Heart of America Athletic Conference Play.
NOTES
• Central Methodist improved to 14-9 on the year, while Culver-Stockton fell to 7-18 (1-11).
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Darcy Latham led the Eagles in kills with nine, and added 15 digs with two block assists.
• Petra Schaffer added six kills in the match.
• Shannon Peters tallied 26 assists with four digs.
• Gabby Hickman paced the Wildcats with 11 kills and three digs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Central Methodist led 6-2 early in set one after a service error from Culver-Stockton.
• A kill from Stock brought Culver-Stockton to within one, 10-9 later in the set, however a 5-0 run from Central Methodist extended the Eagle lead.
• Central Methodist finished the game on a 2-0 run, after being tied 23-23, to take set one.
• In set two, an error from Central Methodist tied the game at six, but a 6-1 run was finished on an ace from Latham to give the Eagles a 12-7 lead.
• Another 6-1 run gave Central Methodist an 18-11 advantage after an error by Culver-Stockton.
• A 7-2 break from Culver-Stockton brought the game to within two, 20-18, however Central Methodist ended the match on a 5-1 scoring spree with Vlasak tallying the final kill, and giving the Eagles set number two, 25-19.
• Central Methodist jumped out to an early 7-3 lead after a kill from Latham in set number three.
• Culver-Stockton took its first lead of the match 11-10 after a kill from Bumbry, however Central Methodist reclaimed the lead 16-13 after a service error from the Wildcats.
• Central Methodist won the final point of the match after another Culver-Stockton attack error to take set three 25-22, and the match in three consecutive sets.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• Central Methodist totaled 31 kills, while Culver-Stockton totaled 34.
• Culver-Stockton finished with 22 errors and nine service errors.
• Both teams finished with 52 digs, however Central Methodist finished with eight block assists and one solo block .
UP NEXT
• The Eagles will return to action Tuesday, October 10, when they travel to Columbia, Mo. to face Stephens College. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
