Fayette, Mo. – The Heart of America Athletic Conference announced their 2016 All-Conference Volleyball Teams and individual awards on Tuesday morning. Central Methodist head coach Allison Jones-Olson was named The Heart's Head Coach of the Year, and five players were named All-Conference.
"I'm very proud of our team this season," said CMU head volleyball coach Allison Jones-Olson. "It was nice to see our players recognized within the conference. These student-athletes worked hard and along with their teammates, made this a record breaking season. I'm very honored by the coach of the year award; it's a direct reflection of our team and coaching staff."
The CMU Volleyball team set numerous program records in 2016. Central finished the year a program best 36-6 and finished 11-2 in Heart of America Athletic Conference play. During the regular season, the Eagles ran off a program best 23 straight match victories; spanning from September 9th through October 20th. The Eagles closed out the season, reaching the conference tournament semifinals, before falling at 14th ranked MidAmerica Nazarene University. The Heart honored some Eagles players and coaches on Monday for their terrific 2016 season.
CMU head coach Allison Jones-Olson was honored as the conferences' Head Coach of the Year. Jones-Olson just completed her fourth season on the Central bench and led the team to a program best 36-6 record. Overall, Coach Jones-Olson is now 467-432 in her 22 years of being a collegiate head volleyball coach.
Among the players honored on Tuesday, junior Madison Bond (JR/Jefferson City, Mo.) and senior Erin Dodd (SR/Pittsburg, Ill.) were named to The Heart's 1st Team. Darcy Latham (JR/Bismark, Mo.) earned a spot on The Heart's 2nd Team, while Caitlin Petty (SO/Leopold, Mo.) and Petra Schaffer (FR/Carinthia, Austria) were named to the Honorable Mention Team.
