Chicago, Ill. – The Central Methodist University volleyball team played their second straight five set match on Friday afternoon, this time the Eagles came out on the victorious end, defeating Milligan College 3-2. Final scores were: 25-21, 19-25, 22-25, 25-19, and 15-9.
With the victory, Central Methodist improves to 12-3 overall, while Milligan College sees their eight match win streak come to an end and fall to 9-3 overall.
"It was a great team win for us," said CMU head coach Allison Jones-Olson. "We had contributions from a lot of girls today that was huge for our game. The girls fought extremely hard and came out with a big win for us. I was very pleased with our effort today."
Central Methodist got stronger and stronger as the matched went on, improving their hitting percentages from set three until set five. The Eagles hit .250 in the third set, .256 in the fourth set, and .500 in the fifth set. Milligan struggled all afternoon, hitting below .200 every set except the third set; where they finished with a .333 hitting percentage.
Individually for the Eagles, four players finished with over 10 kills each. Caitlin Petty (SO/Leopold, Mo.) had a team high 29 assists, while Melody Hanson (SR/Spring Hill, Kan.) and Samantha Reed (SO/Westfield, Ind.) finished with 15 assists and 12 assists respectively. Erin Dodd (SR/Pittsburg, Ill.) led the Eagles with 24 digs, and Samantha Reed and Melody Hanson each finished with 13 digs and 12 digs respectively.
The Eagles will conclude play Saturday in the Roosevelt Quad in Chicago, Illinois, against the University of Rio Grande from Ohio, and the Saint Louis College of Pharmacy. Match times are set for 10am and 12 noon. Central returns home this Tuesday, to face William Penn University, in their first Heart of America Athletic Conference match of the season, beginning at 7pm.
