FAYETTE, Mo. - Central Methodist concluded its season with a 3-0 loss to Graceland (Iowa) on Tuesday inside Puckett Field House in Heart of America Athletic Conference (HAAC) action. The Eagles lost on Senior Night by scores of 22-25, 22-25 and 18-25.
Tuesday marked the final home match for four Central Methodist (13-17, 3-6) seniors: Andrea Lopez, Dana Peters, Jordan Jackson and Ali Schmucker.
The Eagles and Graceland (24-7, 6-3) traded blows in the first set, with neither team leading by more than two points until point 24. A kill by Lindsay Smith gave the Green and Black an 11-9 edge, but the Yellowjackets battled back to take a two-point lead, 18-16, later after consecutive kills by Kendra Martin. A Martin service error tied the match at 21, but Graceland scored three-straight points off kills by Natalia Robles. A Jackson kill cut the deficit to 24-22, but Robles finished off the set with a kill.
The Eagles erased a 5-0 deficit in set two with a 9-2 run, culminating with a Julia Weber block of Allie Krabbenhoft. A Peters kill gave the Eagles a 21-20 lead, but back-to-back Ashley Hausmann kills gave Graceland the lead for good in the game. Martin finished off the game with consecutive kills, giving her team a 2-0 lead in the match.
Leading 8-5, the Yellowjackets put together a 5-0 spurt, and a Robles service ace made the score 13-5. Central Methodist trimmed its deficit to five points twice in the game, with the last coming on a Peters kill to make the score 21-16, but Krabbenhoft finished off the set and match with a kill.
Krabbenhoft ended the night with 13 kills. Martin had a double-double with 12 kills and 12 digs. Kelsi Martin tallied 15 assists.
Jackson finished with nine kills, while Darcy Latham added eight kills, 13 digs and two service aces. Reigning HAAC Setter of the Week Melody Hanson registered a double-double with 10 digs and 20 assists. Lopez, the reigning HAAC Libero of the Week, totaled 18 digs. Katelyn Waddell dished out 11 assists.�
