CMU drops William Penn in three sets




FAYETTE, Mo. - Central Methodist defeated William Penn (Iowa) for a second time this season in three sets, this time coming on Wednesday inside Puckett Field House by scores of 25-11, 25-18 and 25-16. The Statesmen have lost 13-straight matches overall.

Central Methodist (8-14) raced out to a 19-2 lead in game one. An attack error by Kylie Giger of William Penn (2-19) gave the Eagles an 11-1 edge early on. Leading 11-2, the Eagles rolled off eight-straight points, including four Statesmen attack errors and one ball handling error. A kill from Katelyn Waddell ended the first set and gave the Eagles a 14-point triumph.

The Eagles opened the second set with a 9-5 lead following a kill by Lindsay Smith. With the game tied at 13, Central Methodist used a 5-0 run to open up a cushion. Darcy Latham recorded three of her four service aces in the match during the run. The Eagles scored four-straight points down the stretch, and back-to-back kills by Dana Peters ended the second set.

The Green and Black pulled off a 6-0 run with the third game tied at nine to put away the Statesmen. The run started with three attacking errors by William Penn, which was followed by two Smith service aces. A Jordan Jackson kill made the score 15-9, and William Penn never closed within six points the rest of the way. Makenzy Kliethermes' only kill of the night proved to be the match-winner.�

Jackson finished with 11 kills and a hitting percentage of .417. Peters tallied eight kills and a hitting percentage of .462. Smith had nine kills, six digs and three service aces. Andrea Lopez came up with 21 digs, while Hannah Willis had nine. Melody Hanson and Waddell dished out 21 and 10 assists, respectively. Waddell also had six digs.�



The Eagles totaled nine service aces.

Kayce Skocko had seven kills in the loss. Danielle Breeher had 16 digs. Leyra Jusino netted 23 assists.�

Central Methodist resumes Heart of America Athletic Conference action Sunday, Oct. 12, at Peru State (Neb.) at 2 p.m. CT.
