Volleyball splits two matches Friday

HANNIBAL, Mo. - The Central Methodist University volleyball team split a pair of matches on the first day of the Trojan Classic. The Eagles (6-17) defeated tournament-host Hannibal-LaGrange University in five sets before losing to Culver-Stockton College in three.

Central Methodist defeated the Trojans by scores of 21-25, 25-14, 25-16, 17-25 and 15-10. In a non-conference matchup, the Eagles lost to�Culver-Stockton College by scores of�21-25, 20-25 and 16-25.

In the first match of the day, Dana Peters posted a match-high 13 kills for the Eagles. Allie Slaton added nine kills to the attack.�

For the second consecutive match, the Green and Black had four players posting double figures in digs, led by Rebecca Edwards' 14. Jennifer Garrett (12), Kristi Miller (11) and Kylie Melkersman had 10.

Melkersman also dished out 16 assists in her second straight double-double effort.�

Central Methodist's Sarah Lewey tallied a match-high 25 assists.�

The Eagles take on Benedictine University-Springfield (10 a.m. CT) and Clarke University (12 p.m. CT) on Saturday to conclude the Trojan Classic.�
