Overland Park, Kan. - Following a busy weekend of competition, the Central Methodist Track & Field program earned two Heart of America weekly awards, which were announced by the conference office on Monday.
Freshman Akeelah Knox was named the Women's Track Athlete of the Week, while Haley Bellamy earned Women's Field Athlete of the Week recognition.
Knox competed in four events between the Missouri State Invite and the Dewey Allgood Invite this past weekend, hitting at least the B standard in each event
She improved on her national qualifying mark with in the 100m hurdles with a new personal best time of 13.62 seconds. That time also qualifies her for an opportunity to compete for the USA U20 national team this summer.
Additionally, Knox broke the 20-year-old school record in the 200m dash with a time of 23.75 at the Missouri State Invite Friday. She was also a part of the 4x100m relay team that finished first at the Dewey Allgood Invite.
Bellamy hit the A standard in the high jump, clearing a height of 1.70 meters at the Missouri State Invite to finish third. She also competed at Missouri S&T and won the long jump with a B standard leap of 5.79 meters.
Central begins outdoor postseason at the Heart Outdoor Conference Championships beginning Friday, May 1 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
