Brookings, S.D. - The Central Methodist Track and Field program sent 11 athletes to the NAIA Indoor Track & Field National Championships, hosted by Dakota State University in Brookings, S.D. this weekend.
The women's 4x400 meter relay team began the three-day event Friday afternoon in the preliminaries. The team made up of Jessica Bailey, Kailey Johnson, Dayana Montenegro, and Rhakala Blackmon ran a time of 3:57.03, breaking their own school record and finishing the championship in 14th place.
Sophomore Lilian Patterson started day two Saturday in the 3000m racewalk, posting a 13th place finish in a time of 18:14.12.
Kailey Johnson also competed in both the 60m hurdles and 60m dash. The sophomore from Columbia, Mo. just missed out on the finals of the hurdles, running a final time of 8.80 in the second heat to finish ninth overall. She also ran a time of 7.80 in the 60m dash. Megan Aubuchon joined Johnson in the hurdles, placing 17th in 8.97 seconds.
Dayana Montenegro finished 14th in the 600m run with a time of 1:38.66. Freshman Carter Hawkins represented the CMU women in the field events, competing in the pole vault for her first nationals appearance. Kaitlyn Weber took part in the triple jump, posting a final mark of 10.57 meters.
For the men, CMU was represented by Taylor Bottomley and Parker Yager in the field events, and Brennan Moots in the sprints.
Bottomley competed in both the weight throw and shot put, placing 14th in the latter with a toss of 15.83 meters. Moots ran the 60 meter hurdles in a time of 8.44 seconds, while Yager competed in the highly competitive pole vault.
The Eagles will open the outdoor season when the host the CMU Open Saturday, March 19 at Davis Field.
