Records fall as Eagles compete at NAIA/JUCO Invitational

Pittsburg, Kan. - The Central Methodist indoor track and field programs had an impressive showing at the NAIA/JUCO Invitational hosted by Pittsburg State University this weekend in Pittsburg, Kan.

On the women's side, sophomore sprinter Kailey Johnson won the 60 meter hurdles from a field of 19. Her time of 9.00 flat hit  the 'A' standard and she has punched her ticket to the national meet. Megan Aubuchon also placed in the Top 3 with a very respectful time of 9.33 seconds.

In addition, Johnson hit the 'B' standard in the 60 meter dash, breaking her own school record in 7.81 seconds.

Reigning Heart Women's Indoor Athlete of the Week Dayana Montenegro placed second in the 400 meter dash with a time of 57.95 seconds, hitting the 'B' standard for national qualification.

Johnson and Montenegro, along with Jessica Bailey and Rhakala Blackmon came together as the relay team in the women's 4x400, winning the event in a time of 4:01.94 seconds.

In the women's Field Events, freshman Carter Hawkins broke the school record in the pole vault with a mark of 3.42 meters, winning the event and hitting the national qualifying 'B' standard. Fellow teammate Sadie Heisner placed second with a vault of 3.05 meters.

Renee Finke and Aubuchon went 1-2 in the high jump with jumps of 1.45 and 1.42 meters respectively.

On the men's side, senior Taylor Bottomley dominated the competition in the weight throw with a mark of 20.21 meters, nearly four meters better than second place. The mark matched his own school record and was good enough to hit the 'A' standard to qualify for the national meet.

Parker Yager continued the top podium finishes for Central, as he won the pole valult with a mark of 4.30 meters.

For their efforts as a team, the Central women placed first out of 19 teams with 97 team points, while the men finished sixth out of 14. So far this season, Central track has qualified seven athletes in 10 different events at the national meet.

The Eagles will continue competition at the Graceland Inviational hosted by Graceland University Saturday, Jan. 29 in Lamoni, Iowa.
